Every trip my family ever took when I was growing up began the same way. After packing our suitcases and playing a quick game of tetris to get all six of our suitcases in the trunk of our van, we'd sit in our seats, buckle our seat belts...and then groan as my dad (who loves a good game of swap-the-first-letter) made the same old joke. "And we're off...like a terd of hurtles!"
The joke's not funny (sorry, Dad), but it's stayed with me all these years. And so, what a better way to begin than with a terrible joke.
We're off, like a terd of hurtles.
Jeremy and I have made a number of big decisions over the last year, the most recent of which was to follow what we feel is God's call in our lives to strike out on a new adventure. We're leaving Seattle and heading to Oshawa, Ontario - a growing suburb in the Durham region, outside of Toronto (yes, Canada) - to plant a brand new church.
Oshawa is growing in all kinds of ways. Houses after houses are being built (and sold) like crazy, There is both a growing college and university (Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology - or UOIT for short) on the north end of town. Shopping and retail and businesses are being built and revitalized and expanded. So a number of churches in the area have teamed together with the dream of planting a new community of faith in the midst of all this growth and expansion. And we're lucky enough to join that team.
So, I've created this little space in the big world of the internet as a way of chronicling this adventure, and as a means of keeping our friends, family, and supporters updated on what we're learning, doing, and experiencing.
For now, consider this our starting point. We've said yes to this big, exciting, terrifying, life-altering adventure. And we're trusting that God will show us the way. Thanks for following along with us!
